Chocolate Cake


1 ¼ cups Freemills self-raising flour
½ tsp salt
1tsp baking powder
⅓ cup cocoa powder
160ml milk
140g butter (melted)
1 cup caster sugar
3 eggs

For Frosting:

½ cups icing sugar
⅓ cups cocoa powder
4tsp vanilla extract
70g butter (melted)
4tbsp milk


Step 1
Preheat oven to 180C (350F). Grease a 20cm round cake tin and line with baking paper

Step 2
In a bowl, sift flour, salt, baking powder and cocoa together

Step 3
Add milk, butter, sugar and eggs and mix until pale and fluffy

Step 4
When the mixture is evenly combined, spread into the prepared cake tin, and bake for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the cake.

Step 5
Allow cake to cool

Step 6
To make frosting, beat the melted butter in a mixer for 30 seconds. Add milk and vanilla extract, then mix to combine.

Step 7
Add icing sugar and cocoa powder and stir until incorporated.

Step 8
Spread over the top of the cooled cake, and serve
